Cebu university didn’t require students to attend Robredo event

A memo bearing the header of the University of Cebu Lapu Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) inviting students to attend a campaign gathering for Vice President Leni Robredo is authentic, but it does not require attendance of students.

Facebook page BBM Unite Filipino People posted the image of the memo on April 19 with the caption “University of Cebu students your attendance is a must,” falsely suggesting that student attendance is required.

The memo dated April 18 and signed by College of Maritime Education Dean Capt. Edgardo M. Enriquez reads:

This is to inform you that the University of Cebu will be having a Presidential Campaign of VP Leni Robredo this coming April 20, 2022 1500H-1600H at the UCLM Annex II Social Hall. Snacks will be provided and Ms. Candice Gotianuy will be joining too.
With this, please invite 150 regular students to attend the said gathering.
This is inclusive for the regular maritime students.
I want you're at most (sic) cooperation. Thank you.

In a Facebook post of the official account of UCLM College of Maritime Education - Dean's Office on April 21, UCLM confirms that the memorandum was merely an invitation and supposed to be for internal communication.

The post explained that because of safety protocol and crowd management, “the Office of the Dean encourages and invites 150 students only per department.”

The memo was first uploaded in the Facebook page For the Motherland - Sass Rogando Sasot where it reached more than 9,000 reactions and 1,400 shares. Social media users pointed out the grammatical error in the memo saying, “I want you're at most cooperation” when it meant “I want your utmost cooperation.”

The UCLM official post did not directly address the error. It only said, “If not because of the leakage of the memorandum, any of this humiliation and embarrassment would not happen.”

The post in BBM Unite Filipino People reached 1,300 reactions and 578 shares, as of writing. (KC)
