A fake quote card of US reality television star Kim Kardashian-West has been posted on a pro-Duterte Facebook page, claiming that the celebrity had expressed her support and admiration for President Rodrigo Duterte.
The May 30 post of DUTERTE PARA SA BAYAN! reads:
Isa na namang Hollywood artist ang namangha sa ating Pangulo!
Isa syang malapit na supporter ni President Trump kaya naman isa itong malaking karangalan na mapansin nya ang sarili nating Pangulo
(Our president astounds another Hollywood artist. She is a close supporter of President Trump, so it is a great honor that she has taken notice of our own president)!
Kardashian-West’s fabricated quote in the card reads:
President Duterte is a man of fixed and unbending principles, the first of which is to be flexible at all times. It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent.
The card attempted to impersonate the UK-based BBC News.
The photo of Kardashian used in the fabricated quote card was taken by Saul Loeb at a criminal justice reform event at the White House back in July 2019.
The TV-personality-turned-law apprentice was invited to speak about her partnership with ride-sharing service Lyft, which would gift formerly incarcerated people with vouchers for free rides to job interviews.
No record exists of the supposed quote by Kardashian.
The quote, “It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent,” belongs to former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright who said this in an exclusive interview with Huffington Post in 2010.
