Robredo’s 'quote' claiming sure win fake

A quote card showing Vice President and presidential candidate Leni Robredo claiming her and running mate Kiko Pangilinan’s sure win in the election is spurious.

The card impersonated the media outlet Rappler.

Facebook page Pilipinaisko posted the quote card on April 18 in which Robredo was quoted saying:

Sigurado na ang panalo namin ni Kiko (Pangilinan). Pag natalo kami ibig sabihin nadaya tayo. Pag nadaya tayo magkakagulo (Kiko and I win for sure. If we lose, then we’re cheated. If we’re cheated, there will be chaos).

There is no official video or press release of Robredo saying that.

What she said in a speech in Cabuyao, Laguna on Feb. 11 was that Pangilinan would surely win had he run for reelection as senator.

Her statement:

'Yung plano po sana ni Senator Kiko, re-election lang bilang senador at kung ginawa niya 'yun, sigurado na siyang panalo (Senator Kiko’s plan was a re-election for senator, and if he did that, he would win for sure).

The quote card was dated April 15, Good Friday; Robredo had no public schedule that day. A web search also showed that the quote card was not posted in any of Rappler’s social media accounts and far from its usual quote template.

The bogus quote card had Robredo warning that chaos would ensue if the she and Pangilinan tandem would be cheated. In a factcheck by ABS-CBN, Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said the vice president never made such a threat.

The same false claim on Robredo's warning was made by Journal Publication's reporter Marlon Purificacion during the Easter Sunday joint press conference of Isko Moreno, Panfilo Lacson, and Norberto Gonzales.

The fake graphic is now being shared by some personal accounts and support pages on Facebook such as Machiavellian-"Ferdinand Bongbong" Marcos Jr and Leyte Isko Movement 2022. As of writing, it appeared on 17 pages with a combined interaction of 29, 682 according to the monitoring tool Crowdtangle (JL).
