A YouTube video showed 13 photos taken during past disasters, misrepresenting them as having been taken during the Oct. 16 earthquake that hit North Cotabato.
The 90-second video, published Oct. 17 by YouTube channel All In One TV, featured photos of damages from disasters in the Philippines, Indonesia and China. It was titled:
Earthquake In Philippines Magnitude 6.2 | 16 October 2019.
Its caption also came from a Rappler news report on the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Visayas April this year.
One photo in the video was of the 2014 earthquake in Yunnan, China and was published in a Dominican Republic digital newspaper, among others.
Another photo was taken by Kyodo in Banten, Indonesia after the 2018 tsunami and is contained in a report of the South China Morning Post.
Nine photos were taken during previous earthquakes in the Philippines in 2012, 2017, 2018, and April and July of this year. Below are screen grabs from the YouTube video:
A primer from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the Oct. 16 earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3, not 6.2 as the video claimed.
The Youtube video had garnered a total of 369 views, four likes, and one comment before it was taken down. (HP)
