Marcos audio clip on Duterte’s death threats altered

A video of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. addressing Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent death threats against him has been altered, its audio replaced with excerpts from a speech he gave to victims of supertyphoon Pepito in Virac, Catanduanes.

The manipulated Facebook reel posted on Nov. 26 by Mj Alone lifted the audio from the video of Marcos’ Nov. 19 visit to Catanduanes during which he announced the impending distribution of construction materials to help typhoon victims rebuild their homes.

The audio in the altered video starts at the 11:57 mark:

Nagbibigay po kami – hindi pa, wala pa rito ngunit susunod na po – nagbibigay po kami ng mga tinatawag — mga building materials po. Mga yero, mga dos por dos, pati martilyo, pati pako magdadala po kami para kahit papaano masimulan ninyo ang pagpaayos ng inyong mga bahay (We are giving – not yet, it’s not yet here but it is to follow – we are giving what you call building materials. These are iron roofs, 2x2 pieces of wood, hammer, and even nails; we’ll be bringing these so that you can at least start with rebuilding your homes).

In the actual video before it was tampered, Marcos was expressing concern over Duterte’s death threats against him, his wife Liza and cousin Speaker Martin Romualdez. The text of the audio that was replaced in his Nov. 25 message reads:

Nakakabahala ang mga pahayag na narinig natin nitong mga nakaraang araw. Nandiyan ang walang pakundangang pagmumura at ang pagbabanta ng planong ipapatay ang ilan sa atin (The statements we heard the past few days are concerning. There were relentless curses and threats about plans to kill some of us).

Duterte disclosed her supposed plans to retaliate against the president once she gets killed first in a press conference days earlier.

The altered video is the lone post on Mj Alone’s Facebook account and has garnered 9,100 views, 141 reactions, 83 comments and 53 shares. The account has 33,000 followers. (AM)
