A Facebook page misleadingly shared Nov. 22 alleged photos of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games dress rehearsal.
The post by Pilipinas Today bore the caption:
Sea Games 2019 Opening Rehearsal
Nakaka Proud Maging Pilipino (Proud to be Filipino)
The caption was edited to “opening digital simulation” on Nov. 23 after satirical page Malacañang Events and Catering Services called out the images as photoshopped.
The post’s version history showed 1,985 people liked the content when it still had the misleading caption.
Digital simulations are computer-generated images that show how a performance is supposed to look like.
The image above was made using an image-editing software, which is further confirmed by the photo forensics tool Forensically.
An analysis of one of the photos shows image pixelation and presence of lines which are indicative of digital manipulation. GMA News reporter Mav Gonzales posted the photos on Facebook, hours before Pilipinas Today did. She did not emphasize that the “opening ceremony” images were digital simulations.
The post by Pilipinas Today garnered 5,500 reactions, 1,000 comments and 10,000 shares. (GA, EB, BM)
