Video miscredits New Clark City to Duterte

A YouTube video falsely credits to the Duterte administration the establishment of New Clark City to host the Southeast Asian Games this November.

The Oct. 17 video uploaded by Youtube channel Duterte Archives said:

Malapit na nga ang SEA games sa ating bansa at dahil diyan bubuksan nga ang bagong siyudad sa Pampanga, ang New Clark City na itinayo ng Duterte administration (The SEA games are nearing which is why the New Clark City established by the Duterte administration will be opened)...

New Clark City, called “Clark Green City” until 2016, is a 9,450-hectare metropolis proposed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and CEO Arnel Casanova in 2012.

The master development plan was approved by the National Economic and Development Authority Board in 2013 and then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in 2014. The House of Representatives also adopted a resolution supporting the master development plan in 2014.

New Clark City is a mixed-use development with business centers, industrial zones, a university hub, mixed-income housing, integrated transport system, and national government administrative center with an athletic development village.

The claim was made in anticipation of the SEA games in November, which will use the New Clark City sports facilities. However, it was not built only to host the SEA Games.

It still carries the name “Clark,” like the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, despite being located in Tarlac.

A reverse image search of video keyframes shows that the clip used was from the Senate and House of Representatives site visit to the New Clark City Sports Facilities in Capas, Tarlac on Oct. 16. The full video is available on the Radyo Pilipinas Facebook page. (JRC)
