Pro-Marcos FB page alters Marcos quote card

The BBm Youth Movement Facebook page manipulated a quote card of the Manila Bulletin, attributing a different quote to former senator and losing vice presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

The quote accompanying Marcos’ photo posted by his supporters Oct. 14, the eve of the Supreme Court’s meeting on the electoral protest he filed against Vice President Leni Robredo, reads:

I would prefer to fail with honor than to win by cheating.

The original quote card, which appeared on Manila Bulletin's FB page on Aug. 16, 2018, showed Marcos thanking President Rodrigo Duterte for expressing confidence in his ability to lead the country.

The quote on BBm Youth Movement’s post is a paraphrase of a line from a Greek tragedy by ancient playwright Sophocles in 409 B.C.

Its post urged Marcos loyalists to gather outside the Supreme Court the following day with tarps and placards, among others, to show their support for Marcos’ protest pending before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

The High Court released Oct. 15 the initial results of the vice presidential vote recount. (MN)
